Expect to have fun! Watching the majestic whales that summer in Cape Cod Bay and along Stellwagen Bank is an experience of a lifetime. Our Captains are punctual, because they like to get out to where the fun is too, so we ask you to come a bit early to allow time for parking and check in. Generally, our cruise out to the whales takes about 50 to 75 minutes. This of course depends on where the whales are, and the sea conditions. So sit back and enjoy the ride.

As we leave the dock, you'll become aware of all the maritime traffic of bustling Plymouth Harbor. The harbor is home to many commercial fishing vessels, as well as a large number of private sail and power boats. There is always something interesting to watch. As we leave Plymouth Harbor, you'll see Gurnet Light, the lighthouse that marks the entrance to the harbor. You'll also notice Clark's Island, and Duxbury and Plymouth beaches. The naturalist will tell stories and describe some history.

Seabirds of many kinds will be seen throughout the trip. Some are natives, and some are just stopping by for a rest during migration. Take a look at our "Seabirds You'll See" section to familiarize yourself.



The onboard naturalist will orient you as to what to look for when whale watching. Often, the whales are feeding, which can be very exciting because this is often done in groups. The whales will surface together in their pursuit of Krill, their favorite food. You can watch to see if any of the whales have calves accompanying them, as calves are commonly seen here in the summer months. The best place to look is right along side the larger whales, as the calves stay close to the side of their mothers.

Eventually, and sadly, the Captain will head the vessel back toward Plymouth Harbor. But this will give you time to speak with the naturalist to have all your questions answered about what you have seen. Before you know it, you'll be back safely at the dock, full of stories to tell your friends about your whale watching adventure!
